Why the shorthand exists
County record systems were built for tax administration, not for reading. Owner names were keyed into fixed-width fields on systems that predate the web, which is why a record says 'SMITH JOHN A TR ET AL' instead of naming three people and explaining that the first is a trustee.
That compression is why searches fail and why records get misread. Every abbreviation is doing real work: TR changes who you are looking at from an owner to a role-holder, and ET AL is telling you the record is incomplete. Reading them is a small skill that changes what the same page tells you.
